Welcome to the P.T. Barnum billboard website
I'm David Sheridan, an art teacher at Thousand Islands Secondary
School, in Brockville, Ontario, Canada. In the summer of 1989 my wife
and I
discovered a P.T. Barnum Billboard buried in the walls of our home
during an extensive renovation. This multicolored bill stand stretches
over sixty feet long by about eleven feet high, and includes various
individual pictures of this great touring circus show. It advertised
Friday, June 1st ,1877, as the day the circus would arrive. Shortly
after this date, the circus left leaving this immense bill stand to
be used as building material for a new summer kitchen at a home on
100 King St. E. With the help of circus historians Fred Phenning III,
Fred Dahlinger Jr. , Robert L. Parkinson, Dean Jensen and collector
Ken Hark the answers to some of the intriguing questions surrounding
this incredible find were brought to light. With their help this huge
multicolored wood-block print is now recognized as the oldest P.T.
Barnum poster in the world!. With the help of my amazing art students
I have been able to piece most of this behemoth back together for your
enjoyment.
Come
in and explore the mystery behind the walls of Brockville......................... |
